Using the OhioLINK Digital Video Collection
Through our participation in OhioLINK, College of Wooster faculty, students, and staff have access to over 1,500 videos in digital format as part of the OhioLINK Digital Video Collection (DVC). These videos are primarily from the distributor Films for the Humanities & Sciences.
The collection can be browsed by subject or title and searched by keyword. There are also records for many but not all of the videos in the CONSORT library catalog.
Viewing the Videos
Once you have found a video of interest click on the title to go to the individual record for that video. You now have options for viewing the video directly “streamed” from OhioLINK or downloading the video to your computer and then viewing it.
While viewing the video directly from OhioLINK should work well, it is recommended that users download videos to a local computer for best viewing results. It will likely take several minutes for the videos to be downloaded to your computer.
To view the videos it is necessary to use the free RealPlayer software (available at http://www.real.com/). Once you have downloaded and installed the RealPlayer software you should be able to open the video file and have it start playing in RealPlayer. It is possible that opening the file will start a different media player on your computer that will not properly play the video. If this is the case, simply start RealPlayer then open the video file by using the Open function under the File menu of RealPlayer.
Using the Digital Videos in a Classroom
To show the videos in a classroom setting you will need to have a computer, speakers, and a digital projector. If you are planning to use a computer that is already located in the classroom you will want to download or transfer the video to that computer in advance. It is possible to copy the video to a portable drive and then transfer it to the classroom computer.
