Reference Sources
- Encyclopedia of Sociology WOO Reference HM425 .E5 2000
- This five volume encyclopedia covers the major topics in the field of sociology. Each essay also includes a bibliography for further research.
- Sociology: A Guide to Reference and Information Sources WOO Reference HM51 .A24 1997
- This title provides bibliographies and lists of other resources for locating information in specific areas of Sociology.
- Survey of Social Science. Sociology series WOO Reference HM17 .S86 1994
- This five volume set provides introductory articles on numerous topics in the field of sociology. Articles contain bibliographies to help further your research.
Indexes and Databases
Start with:
- SocINDEX (EBSCOhost)
- Provides access to journal articles in sociology and related disciplines. Coverage goes back to 1895 for core titles which represent about one-fourth of this collection. Coverage is more recent for the remainder of the collection (ca. 1100 titles). Many citations link to the full text of articles.
- Sociological Abstracts (1963-2005)
- Provides access to journal articles, conference papers, books, & dissertations in sociology and related disciplines in the social & behavioral sciences from 1963-2005. Articles are drawn from an international selection of over 2600 journals.
- Sociological Collection (EBSCOhost) (1970- )
- Provides indexing, abstracts, and links to full text of articles from over 620 journals in the field of sociology; over 580 of those journals are peer-reviewed titles. A small number of journals indexed in the database (about 10) provide indexing and abstracts only.

- PAIS International (1972-present) and PAIS Archive (1915-1976)
- Provides indexing to articles, books, conference proceedings, government documents, book chapters, we resources, and statistical directories about public affairs. Abstracts are included for most records from 1985 to the present. PAIS international includes publications from over 120 countries throughout the world, and includes materials published in French, German, Italian, and Spanish.
- Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection (EBSCOhost)
- Provides indexing, abstracts, and links to full text of articles from over 510 journals in the field of psychology and social psychology; over 490 of those journals are peer-reviewed titles. A small number of journals indexed in the database (about 10) provide indexing and abstracts only.
- Social Sciences Citation Index (1979- )
- Indexes 1,700 journals spanning 50 disciplines. Perform a general search using subject terms, author, journal title, or author affiliation; or find out who has cited a particular work by doing a Cited Reference Search. Reference lists for each work are included.
Electronic Journals
- Annual Review of Sociology
- Provides access to the full text of each issue, from 1996 - present.
- JSTOR
- Provides access to the full text of a variety of scholarly journals. Coverage generally begins with volume one of a journal, and ends 2-5 years from the present. Journals may be browsed or searched.

- NCJRS Abstracts Database
- Index of the National Criminal Justice Research Service of the U.S. Dept of Justice. Links to full text of many DOJ publications.
- Statistical Resources on the Web: Sociology
- A site maintained by the University of Michigan with links to U.S. federal and other data collections in areas such as children’s issues, economic status, homelessness, public opinion, sexual behavior, etc.
